UMS Water Woes

Image
Sabah Tanah Tiada Airku (Image Source from Whatsapp) The ongoing water supply issues at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) have been a major concern for students, staff, and parents alike. The problem started last year, and despite talks with ministers and relevant government agencies, it has yet to be resolved. As a result, students are facing difficulties in their studies, and their morale is badly affected. As a concerned parent with two children studying at UMS, I can attest to the frustration and anxiety felt by families affected by this issue. The lack of reliable water supply at UMS has become a severe problem, especially for students living on campus. This includes my children, who have been struggling with the situation for a while now. The university has made several attempts to address the issue, but it has persisted, causing great inconvenience for students and their families. It is unacceptable that students have to go through the hassle of having to leave their hostels ...

Burning Bridges

Photo by Jeffrey Hamilton on Unsplash As human beings, we all seek companionship and connection. We form friendships with others in the hopes of finding mutual support, comfort, and joy. However, not all friendships are healthy, and some can even be toxic. It can be difficult to let go of these friendships, but sometimes, it is necessary for our well-being. Over the years, I have stepped away from many friendships that I deemed toxic. At first, it was not an easy decision to make. I felt guilty and ashamed for wanting to distance myself from people who had once been important in my life. However, as time went on, I began to realize that I was doing what was best for me. I was choosing my mental and emotional health over the need to keep toxic people in my life. In the end, stepping away from toxic friendships has allowed me to feel more at peace. While I do think  about these friendships from time to time, I know that I made the right decision for myself. By prioritizing my...

Bahasa Inggeris

Image
Today, I feel like talking about the importance of our young generation in mastering the English language, in Bahasa Melayu.

The Sacred Institution of Marriage in Islam: Values and Perspectives

Image
Dedicated to my Keenan.  "Surah Al-Baqarah: Ayat 235" Marriage is a sacred institution in Islam that is highly valued and encouraged. It is seen as a way of fulfilling one of the fundamental purposes of life, which is to establish a family and maintain stability in society. Islam views marriage as a contract between two consenting adults who agree to share their lives together and to support and care for each other. In Islam, marriage is not just a physical relationship between two people but is also a spiritual bond. It is believed that a successful marriage can bring peace and happiness to the couple and their families, while an unsuccessful marriage can lead to many social and psychological problems. Islam encourages men and women to get married at a young age, provided that they are physically, emotionally, and financially ready for marriage. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "When someone with whom you are pleased comes to you (with a marriage proposal...

The Impact of Careless Communication on Relationships

Image
Words have tremendous power. They can inspire, motivate, and bring joy to people's lives. However, they can also hurt, harm, and scar individuals deeply. The effects of hurtful words can last for years, even decades. Unfortunately, this type of language is often used without thought or consideration of the receiver's feelings, particularly by people who are close to us, including family members and friends. It is easy to assume that words said by someone we love will not harm us. However, the truth is that hurtful words can sting more coming from those we love. Often, we are more vulnerable around our loved ones, and their words can cut deeper. They may say things without realizing the impact they have on the receiver, or they may not care about the harm they cause. The problem with hurtful words is that they can cause lasting damage. Once spoken, they cannot be taken back. They can create negative emotions such as anger, resentment, and hurt. These emotions can ling...

An Empty Nest

Image
A s parents, it's hard to watch our children grow up and start their own lives. On Monday 27/3/2023, my second daughter and son started their second Semester at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and as I watched them leave, I couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness. The house was quiet again, and I already missed their presence. Even though I would pick them up every weekend to spend time with us, I knew it wouldn't be the same as having them around all the time. It's funny how, as parents, we spend so much time wishing for a little peace and quiet, only to realize how much we miss our children's energy and enthusiasm when they're gone. As if the departure of two of my children wasn't enough, I also knew that my eldest daughter would soon be leaving too. She had recently graduated from UMS, and once she had gotten her job, she would be flying out to start her own life. While I was proud of her and excited for her future, I also knew that I would miss he...

My Lunch Break Routine

Image
I value my lunch break as a time to recharge and unwind. I’ve discovered something that I look forward to every day. 1.       Food Delivery. I've been working here at my current job since 2001. That is a very long time. So, I'm sure you can imagine eating lunch from the same eateries for that long can get pretty sickening. Moreover, I don't want to waste time by leaving my office to get my food. That's why I've become a big fan of food delivery services like Grab, Panda, or Shopee. With just a few taps on my phone, I can have a delicious meal from local restaurants delivered right to my doorstep. Some of my favorite options include that long-ass sandwich, the terribly overpaid burgers, and anything fried chicken. Yeah, I'm down with fast food.  2.       Netflix While eating my lunch, I like to settle in with an episode (or two) of a show on Netflix. Whether it's a drama that I've been binging for weeks or a new comedy that just prem...
